Victoria Cross and Bar
« on: February 01, 2010, 02:26:08 AM »
In the 154 year history of the Victoria Cross; three men have been awarded our highest honor twice.

The first was Lieutenant Colonel Arthur Martin-Leake VC and Bar who recieved his first VC during the Boer War in 1902 and his second VC during WWI in 1914. Lt Col Martin Leake; a medical officer with the British Army is featured below. Leake passes away in 1953.

The second is Captain Noel Godfrey Chavasse VC & Bar, MC who was citied for both VC's during the First Wolrd War. Captain Chavasse VC and Bar , MC is also a Medical Officer with the British Army. Chavasse's Bar was awarded posthumously.

The third is Captain Charles Hazlitt Upham VC & Bar of the New Zealand Army. He was cited for both his VC's during the Second World War. Captain Upham is the only Infantry soldier to recieve two VC's.  In additon to his long campaign during WWII which saw action in North Africa and Italy; Captain Upham was a POW at the infamous Colditz Prision. Captain Upham passed away in 1994.

The VC and Bar.

I cant find an image but the ribbon for a VC and Bar is a crimson ribbon with two minature crosses on the ribbon (as one is on the ribbon for a first award which is the only exception in our honour systems).
